The Dalesman - Alice's Adventures in Yorkshire

The August 2015 edition of Yorkshire’s The Dalesman had an article about Lewis Carroll and the rectory at Croft on Tees in North Yorkshire where Dodgson's father came as rector of St Peter's in 1843 with young Charles, then just 11 years old.

Several possible Yorkshire connections are explored:-

The possibility of the Cheshire Cat being inspired by the cat carved into the Croft on Tees church.

The Jabberwocky being inspired by the legend of The Sockburn Wyrm.

The White Rabbit or even the March Hare being inspired by the stone archway to St mary's church in Beverley.

The pages of the article can be read below and the magazine can be seen by following this link - The Dalesman August 2015.
