I enjoyed reading John Tufail’s article Lewis Carroll and Richard St. John Tyrwhitt (Daresbury Chronicle March 2011).

I have in my collection a book by Tyrwhitt - Hugh Heron, Ch. Ch., An Oxford Novel: Strahan and Company Ltd. London, undated. The half title has the inscription `C. L. Dodgson / from R S J Tyrwhitt / March/80.' The date 1880 is also certainly the year of publication, which would confirms Dr Tufail’s point that the friendship with Lewis Carroll was enduring.
