Previous Meeting of The Society

Daresbury park Hotel.jpgOur autumn meeting was at The Dasresbury Park Hotel had the benefit of two Alices. Nicol Thompson from Llandudno, who represents that town at functions and our new ‘Alice’ Thalia Thompson who was on her first outing as Alice.     The two girls are not related despite the coincidence in surname!

They are shown here in the Daresbury Park hotel, Nicol (left) and Thalia (right) with the White Rabbit who often shows up at our meetings!
Thalia lives in Sandymoore and attends the primary school there. She is interested in riding and had just taken up Karate when she was appointed as Alice.
Both Nicol and Thalia read a poem from Lewis Carroll’s books and both girls spoke confidently.

The talk at the meeting was given by Keith Wright and was about Harry Furniss (left) the artist who illustrated the Sylvie and Bruno books. The talk was illustrated by a PowerPoint presentation. An article about Harry Furniss appeared in the autumn edition of the Caldecott Society magazine which is also edited by our editor!

This article has now been included in our website. Just click on Harry Furniss biography from Caldecott Magazine .
